We never set out to start a farm.

In 2019, after a particularly hard season, we found ourselves wondering if there was something more for our family. Then we stumbled across this piece of property. We sold our house in Pearland, bought the land, and started dreaming out loud about what life here could look like.

In 2021, we made the move and welcomed our first animals—Dexter cows, goats, and a few chickens. That fall, while we were installing the fence for those first animals, we did what any experienced farmers would do: we installed it backwards.

And just like that, Back Fence Farm was born.

What started with a backwards fence and a handful of animals has grown into so much more. More animals, new life, loss of life, plenty of lessons, sourdough, events, friendships, and a community that keeps finding its way around our table.

Today, I’m a coach, my wife Ali is an ICU nurse, and together we're raising three kids, three dogs, three cats, and a whole lot of livestock. Somehow, this place has become something far beyond what we ever imagined when we first found it.

It's a place to grow things, make things, gather people, and make a life together.

And we really believe this is only the beginning.

Our Story

Long before Back Fence Farm, some of my favorite memories were made visiting my grandparents in Ohio. They lived on a farm with Belgian horses, and I spent countless days watching my grandfather work—learning, without even realizing it, what it meant to work hard, take pride in what you do, and care for what has been entrusted to you.

I admired my grandfather deeply, and so much of what I loved about those visits stayed with me. Looking back, I think a little piece of the farm was always in our story.
